'Books' by Christian Gutowski
Whether reading books for school or for pure pleasure, reading is brain food. Nourish your brain with Christian Gutowski's clever poem about books.

What kinds of books do you love to read? Christian, a present 8th grader at AMS, tells you all about his favorites in his clever poem.
Books, which are my favorite things,
Tell of dragons and fairy wings,
Replace reality with their own,
Into which tapestries of words are sewn,
Let me escape reality,
Sometimes losing all sense of normality.

These magic portals, these mystic tomes,
Are filled with witches, warlocks, elves and gnomes,
But, of course, these fantasies
Though wondrous and my mind do please,
Are just a fraction of the book world’s content,
Different ones may tell us the history of a continent.
Others sing the praises of the Pythagorean Theorem,
Another may tell of surgery or a serum.
More yet spout sayings of famous men,
Or give a description of a fox’s den.
For children, the illustrated alphabet,
Or stories to tell when the sun has set.

There are those which tell of scientific formulae,
And others with songs for a holiday.
But still, in my mind, as it stands,
The type of book I like best to have in my hands,
Is an author’s awesome, epic, but still false depiction,
My favorites are the glorious but fake works of fiction.
