AVON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Colgate University, Hamilton NY

• Three students from Avon who received a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher while completing at least three courses during the fall 2017 semester earned the Dean's Award with Distinction. Jordan Levine, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2018, is a graduate of Avon High School, whose current major is economics. Lindsey Becker, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2019, is a graduate of Miss Porter's School, from Avon, whose current major is psychology. Caroline Schaefer, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2018, is a graduate of Avon High School,whose current major is Middle East and Islamic studies.
• Tali Filstein, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2021, has earned the Dean's Award for Academic Excellence. Filstein is a graduate of Avon High School whose current major is biology. Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.3 or higher while completing at least three courses earn the fall 2017 Dean's Award for Academic Excellence.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• After a disappointing 2016-17 season that saw the Warriors lose 10 of 18 games, the Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team is looking to reestablish itself as a serious contender in the Little East Conference. Thanks to the return of 16 letter winners from last year, the team is looking to bounce back after only the second losing season in program history. Among the student athletes playing for this season's team is Cullen Baker of Avon. Baker plays the goaltender position and majors in Finance.
• Many Eastern Connecticut State University students participate in Eastern's clubs during the academic year. The student club programs range from social to educational, physical to spiritual and civic engagement programs that benefit and enrich the Eastern community. Participants from Avon during the fall 2017 semester were: Audrey Rossignol, Ski-N'-Board Club, Political Science major; Crystal Vicente, Biochemistry Club, Biochemistry major; and Gabriella Zone, Repertory Dance Troupe, Psychology major.

University of Dallas, Irving TX

• Dolores Mihaliak of Avon was one of nearly 450 University of Dallas students named to the fall 2017 Dean's List for earning a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Mihaliak is majoring in Undeclared.
