AVON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Forty-three psychology students at Eastern Connecticut State University presented their research in a poster session on Nov. 27 at the department's annual Psychological Science Afternoon. Gabriella Zone of Avon was one of the students who presented their research. Zone majors in Psychology and was mentored by Psychology Professor Kristalyn Salters-Pedneault during the course of their research. Zone's research project is titled "A Correlational Study of Sexual Satisfaction and Level of Commitment with Relationship Satisfaction."

Siena College, Loudonville NY

  • Siena Women's Soccer junior back Amanda Holtzman has been named a United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team selection. The Avon native becomes the 10th Siena All-Region honoree in the past 11 years. Holtzman was tabbed a First Team All-MAAC selection last month. She started all 19 matches at right back this fall, and led the Saints with 1,571 minutes logged. Holtzman helped anchor a Siena defensive unit which posted a 1.17 goals against average and ranked third in the MAAC with seven shutouts. She also registered her first two collegiate assists this past season. She was also named to the All-Academic Team at the MAAC Awards Banquet held at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
