Campus Notes - Avon College Students

AVON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Belmont University, Nashville TN

• Three students from Avon achieved the Dean's List at Belmont University for the fall 2017 semester. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C. The local honorees are Regina Chappano, Abigail Inglis and Christian Salhany. Approximately 35 percent of Belmont's 8,080 students qualified for the fall 2017 Dean's List.

Coastal Carolina University, Conway SC

• Hunter Sanders, of Avon, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in marketing during commencement exercises held Dec. 15, 2017, at Coastal Carolina University. More than 700 students were candidates for graduation in the ceremony held at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center on campus.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• The Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's soccer teams both had seasons to remember in the fall 2017 semester. Among the students who played this season were Daniel Shayler of Avon, a forward who majors in Health Sciences, and Tara Shayler of Avon, a midfielder who majors in Elementary Education and History. The women, concluding with a record of 9-8-3, continued their streak of excellence, recording its third year in a row of unbeaten Little East Conference play and advancing as far as the LEC championship game. The men's season, with a record of 9-7-2, was an excellent rebound from 2016--the only losing season in the 11 years under the helm of head coach Greg DeVito. In the final game of the year, they secured a winning season with a 3-0 shutout of the University of Southern Maine.
