AVON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

St. Lawrence University, Canton NY

• Margaret M. Whitney of Avon was one of nearly 520 students who were awarded bachelor degrees from St. Lawrence University during Commencement ceremonies held on May 20 in Canton, New York. Whitney is a member of the Class of 2018 and majored in neuroscience. Whitney received the degree of bachelor of science. Whitney attended Avon High School.

Tunxis Community College, Farmington CT

• Tunxis Community College held its 47th Commencement on May 30 at Central Connecticut State University. A total of 805 degrees and certificates were conferred to 645 graduates from 60 Connecticut towns as well as Massachusetts and New Jersey, and included noncredit certificates awarded through Continuing Education and Workforce Development. Avon residents receiving degrees and/or certificates were Shannon Brownell, Irma Carusone, Benjamin Haberern, Yonatan Hailu, Julian Hebert, Klaudia Kusmierz, Brian Malone, Nicholas Mazzaccaro, Jessica McCamish, Genevieve Piccione and Nida Shaikh.
