AVON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Georgia Southern University, Statesboro GA

• Georgia Southern University recently recognized approximately 2,900 students for excellence in academics on the fall 2017 Dean's List. Caroline Rendeiro of Avon has been named to the list for excellence in academics. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

Merrimack College, North Andover MA

• Octavia Rossini of Avon was named to the Merrimack College Dean's List for the fall 2017 semester.

Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia PA

• Rebecca Hartman, Erin Sutter and Taylor Wallburg, all of Avon, earned dean's list honors for the fall 2017 semester at Saint Joseph's University. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above, a B or greater in all their classes, and complete at least 15 credits to earn Dean's List status for a semester.

Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven CT

• A total of 40 student-athletes from fall teams at Southern Connecticut State University have been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (with selections to either the Academic Honor Roll or the President's Honor Roll. The ECAC Academic Honor Roll is split into two tiers. The Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who achieved a 3.2-3.59 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and have completed one full academic year at their current institution. The second tier, the President's Honor Roll, recognizes student-athletes who have a GPA of 3.6 or better and have completed a full academic year at their institution. Emily Stross of Avon, a member of the field hockey team, has been named to the Academic Honor Roll.

University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa AL

• Jessica Lane Banks of Avon received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Information Sciences during winter commencement Dec. 16.
