The Avon Land Trust and the local recreation department are hosting a 'New Year's Hike' on Saturday, Jan. 4, at a popular Avon trail area.

AVON, CT — Just because the calendar says "January" and the weather is, to put it bluntly, wintery, doesn't mean one can't enjoy the outdoors.

Proving that Saturday morning, Jan. 4, is the Avon Land Trust and the Avon Recreation and Parks Department, which is hosting a "New Year's Hike" at the Fisher Meadows Recreation Area.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and it will traverse an "easy, 2 - 2.5-mile path along the Farmington River and around Fisher Farm lake.
