Course In Avon To Help Seniors Avoid Falls: Health District

The Farmington Valley Health District is hosting a course starting next week in Avon that will help senior citizens avoid dangerous falls.

AVON, CT — The Avon Senior Center next week will begin hosting a special, nine-week class that will help seniors avoid falls or be safer should they fall.

It is being hosted by the regional Farmington Valley Health District on Wednesdays from March 6 to May 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the center, which is located at 635 W. Avon Road, Avon.

Falls can be especially dangerous to fragile seniors and the course will explore all aspects of the problem.

Those taking the course will learn ways to make their homes less risky for falls and exercises to improve strength and balance.

The class is recommended for anyone concerned about falls or concerned about a loved one falling.

The Farmington Valley Health District, which is based in Canton, has similar events in Hartland and Granby planned as well.

The FVHD serves several towns, including Avon; Barkhamsted; Canton; Colebrook; East Granby; Farmington; Granby; Hartland; New Hartford; and Simsbury.
