Avon Forum Targets Drug Abuse

AVON, CT — A local church is hosting a special forum Wednesday night to educate the community on the dangers of substance abuse and how to get help if needed.
The free forum is Wednesday, May 24, at 7 p.m. at the West Avon Congregational Church, which is at 280 Country Club Road.
Called "You Can Help," the forum is being done in partnership with the Farmington Valley Health District, "A Promise to Jordan" and the "Farrell Treatment Center."

The FVHD is based in Canton, but it serves Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, East Granby, Farmington, Granby, Hartland, New Hartford and Simsbury.
"A Promise to Jordan" is Simsbury-based nonprofit that raises awareness of substance use disorders and aims to "erase the stigma surrounding them."

The "Farrell Treatment Center" is a New Britain-based substance abuse treatment facility.
As for Wednesday's event, organizers say the goal is to "educate our community on resources for substance use disorders, counterfeit drugs and assistance in recovery and care."
