The Ethel Walker School Announces 2019 Graduates

SIMSBURY, CT — The Ethel Walker School, an independent college preparatory boarding and day school for girls in Simsbury, has announced seven students from Avon graduated as members of its Class of 2019.

Kristen Emery will attend American University in the fall.

Amanda Gould will attend the University of Tampa in the fall.

Stephanie Makowski was inducted into the Cum Laude Society in recognition of her academic excellence. During the school’s annual Prize Night, she earned the History Prize. While at Walker’s, she earned honorable mention for her project in an international contest, the 3rd
Annual Small World Initiative (SWI), “Do Something About Antibiotics Challenge™.” She also
won first place for her project in the high school category of Tiny Earth Network’s 2018 November Antibiotic Awareness Campaign. At commencement, she was awarded the 2019 Beatrice Hurlburt Memorial Prize For Character and Influence and the Scholarship Prize, which recognizes the top student who excels in taking a remarkably difficult course load. Makowski will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall.

Isabella (Bella) Manganiello earned the Dorothy Silverherz Dance Prize during the school’s annual Prize Night. Manganiello will attend New York University in the fall.

Kathleen (KC) O’ Connor served as a captain of the varsity field hockey team. O’ Connor will attend Endicott College in the fall.

Chloe Miller will play Division I lacrosse at Central Michigan University. She was recently selected as the 2019 US Lacrosse Jackie Pitts award winner for the State of Connecticut for her lacrosse involvement and contributions to the game, school, and community.

Annie Sherbacow was honored as a scholar-artist in recognition of her academic achievement
and contributions to dance at the varsity level. During the school’s annual Prize Night in 2018,
she earned the St. Lawrence Book Award. Sherbacow will attend the University of Connecticut
in the fall.
