Join Professor Dan Lloyd of Trinity College for an evening of thinking about, looking at, and actually listening to the human brain.
We will look at the mind-as-music from two perspectives. First, we’ll consider the musical properties of consciousness. Then we’ll consider the dynamic brain as revealed by functional magnetic resonance imaging.
The music of thought leads to “sonification”, converting data into sound. Perhaps sonification can lead to a “mental stethoscope” for the diagnosis of mental illness. But in any case, listening to the brain leads to an appreciation of the symphony that is each of us.
