Avon Summer Theater presents "ONCE UPON A MATTRESS

AVON SUMMER THEATER CELEBRATES 52nd SUMMER

Avon Summer Theater celebrates its 52nd summer with the
hilarious musical comedy, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS on July 19, 20, 21 @ 7:30 pm and
July 22nd at 2:00 pm at  Avon High
School, Avon, CT.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, the "true story of the Princess
and the Pea",  is a whimsical tale
of a search for a bona-fide princess to wed the prince-heir of a mute king and
dominant queen, who is not necessarily in favor of any marriage.  Of course the kingdom is hopeful, for none
may marry until the prince takes a bride, of royal blood, of course.  The musical first opened on Broadway in 1959
starring the unknown Carol Burnett as the Princess Winnifred.  This was the first Broadway musical to have
been written by a woman, Mary Rodgers, daughter of Richard Rodgers (of Rodgers
and Hammerstein fame).  The Avon Summer
Theater production is directed by Simsbury resident and retired Avon teacher,
Doreen Cohn, with musical direction by Canton's Diana Lawler, Choreography by
Bloomfield resident Terry Rowe, Costumes by Cindy Braunlich(Simsbury) and
Technical Direction by Ken Jones(Canton).

raucous, romantic and melodic, the spin on this familiar classic of royal
courtship and "comuppance" provides for some wonderful shenanigans
