Open Studios Saturday and Community Sewing Bee

During Open Studios Saturday at the Farmington Valley Arts Center, visitors can meet more than a dozen artists who work on-site, including Anita Gangi Balkun (Studio 6B), who was selected as 2012's summer term Artist in Residence. Balkun invites adults and supervised children to join her on the lawn from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to assist in assembling a large-scale yarn-bombing installation, titled "Self-Storage," which will be featured on the corner of Asylum and Main Streets at the September 29 Envisionfest in Hartford. No sewing experience is required: just a willingness to have fun and to pitch in as 30 afghans are stitched together during this community "sewing bee."
