Wild and Scenic Study Discussion about the Farmington River

Please join us for a discussion on Didymosphenia geminata, more commonly called “didymo,” an invasive freshwater algae that the Department of Environmental Protection has recently confirmed in the west branch of the Farmington River. Experts will discuss the effects of the algae on the river’s eco-system, current state laws and requirements pertaining to boaters and invasive plant life, and what can be done to prevent further spreading. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and speak about their environmental concerns.

State Sen. Kevin Witkos (R-8), Peter Aarrestad, director of Inland Fisheries Division with the Department of Environmental Protection, Joyce Kennedy, study coordinator with the lower Farmington River and Salmon Brool.
