Fireplace Inferno Destroys Avon Home: AVFD

AVON, CT — A Friday morning inferno at an Avon residence was linked to the use of a fireplace, but, thankfully, there were no injuries, Avon Volunteer Fire Department officials said.

According to the AVFD, the blaze was reported at about 3:13 a.m. in the Secret Lake neighborhood.

The department said firefighters were originally called to investigate a smoke condition in that area.

When firefighters arrived at the single-structure residence, "heavy smoke was filling the residence from a fireplace that escalated to a working structure fire," wrote the AVFD.

The department posted photos of the blaze, showing heavy, dark smoke and flames pouring out of the residence.

This prompted a mutual aid request with the Canton Volunteer Fire Department and added fire support and ambulance personnel were called to the scene "as a precaution."

Fire officials said no one in the building was injured and all occupants were out of the building when firefighters arrived.

"Both Avon and Canton volunteer fire departments were able to get the fire under control," wrote the AVFD. "All units cleared the scene by 4:44 a.m."
