Get Your Geek On At AvonCon 2024
The Avon Free Public Library Saturday is hosting its version of the popular conventions celebrating geek culture in San Diego and New York.

AVON, CT — Area folks are invited to get their geek on and celebrate the artistic and literary mediums that many love.
The Avon Free Public Library will host "AvonCon" on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Guests will be able to join the library, located at 281 Country Club Road, Avon, for a day of "magic, creativity, and community spirit."
The celebration is modeled after the grand comic conventions of New York City and San Diego and it is an all-day event celebrating geek culture and giving appreciation for comics and related popular art forms.

"AvonCon promises to be a day filled with excitement and wonder for all ages," wrote the library in an announcement.
Attendees can look forward to panels, interactive workshops, vendors, creative crafts, and activities happening simultaneously throughout the library premises.
Some of the highlights include the opportunity to meet Sparkle the Unicorn from Mystic Party Animals, along with a virtual author visit by renowned manga, comic and WEBTOON artist Snailords, and several Connecticut horror authors.
Cosplay enthusiasts are encouraged to dress up and participate in the cosplay contest with a chance to win a prize.
Some events require advance registration. All events are free but guests should bring cash for any vendor finds and treats from the food truck that will be at the library.
