Hartford Man Identified In Fatal Avon Crash: Police

The 49-year-old operator was the lone occupant in the fiery wreck early Sunday morning, police said.

AVON, CT — Local police have released the identity of the man killed in a fiery car accident on Old Farms Road Sunday morning.

The Avon Police Department Monday morning identified the victim as being Cleverton Gordon, 49, of Hartford.

Police said he was the operator of a 2020 Acura MDX who died at the scene of the accident early Sunday morning.

According to police, at about 3:11 a.m. Sunday, the Avon Police Department responded to the area of Old Farms Road at Tillotson Road following an automated crash notification from an Apple watch.

"Officers arrived on scene within minutes to find a vehicle off the roadway and fully engulfed in flames," wrote the APD in a statement Sunday.

Police said it appears the 2020 Acura was traveling west on Old Farms Road at a high rate of speed and left the roadway striking a tree.

Gordon died as a result and was the only occupant of the vehicle, police said.

The accident is still under investigation and anyone with additional information is asked to contact APD Officer Steven Levin at 860-409-4287.
