AVON, CT — Avon residents will have an opportunity to meet with local fire officials and learn more about the town's fire service during a "Coffee with the Chiefs" event scheduled for Thursday, June 11.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department is inviting community members to join Avon Fire Department Chief Bruce Appell and department leadership for an informal discussion at Dom's Coffee, 20 West Main St.

The drop-in event will run from 8 to 10 a.m. and is designed to give residents a chance to ask questions and learn more about the department's operations, equipment and services.

According to the department, topics may include fire protection and water supply, emergency response operations, apparatus and equipment needs, firehouse facilities and infrastructure, and fire safety and prevention efforts.

Fire officials said the event is intended to provide insight into how the department operates and what is required to maintain modern emergency services for the community.
