"Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" this summer with exhibits and events in Avon

Avon Public Library hosts VFW Post 3272 commemoration of World War II

This summer the Avon Public Library is partnering with Avon’s VFW Post 3272 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II with a military service exhibit, artifacts display and programs that highlight the service of WWII veterans who were members of VFW Post 3272.

TWO EXHIBITS OPEN ALL SUMMER:

  1. View World War II military service histories from Avon’s VFW Post 3272 in the library’s gallery June 15 through August 31. The exhibit, “A Tribute to World War II Veterans of Avon’s VFW Post 3272 On Their 70th Anniversary” is the result of an ongoing life-long research project conducted by Avon’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3272 historian, Bill Newman and based on extensive interviews with veterans and their families. The exhibit will feature narrative histories of living WWII veterans and commemorative photographs of veterans who are deceased; as well as annotated maps of the European & Pacific theaters.
  2. A collection of World War II memorabilia will be displayed in Avon Library’s Marion Hunter History Room featuring photos, artifacts, weapons and uniforms from local veterans. A World War II era motorcycle & sidecar on display on the first floor of the library.
