Local Boy Heads to Japan for World Scout Jamboree
Avon Boy Scout heads to the World Scout Jamboree in late July
The 2015 World Scout Jamboree will be held this summer in Japan. A local Avon Boy Scout, Micah Rahardjo, will be in attendance with the New England troop. The New England troop has four adult leaders and twenty-seven Scouts, of whom thirteen are from Connecticut. In total, there are about 1,300 Scouts and leaders from the US who will be heading to Japan in late July.
The jamboree will take place in Kirara-hama in Yamaguchi, about five hours south of Tokyo via bullet train. It will bring together more than 30,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff to share adventures, international friendship and personal growth over the ten-day event.
The Scouts will cook their daily meals and camp in tents. They will have time for sports and water activities, as well as friendship and cultural exchanges. The New England troop recently held a shakedown camping weekend to prepare for the jamboree.
