NORFOLK/AVON, CT — An Avon man involved in a single-car accident Wednesday evening in Norfolk was subsequently charged with multiple weapons violations during the police investigation.
Connecticut state police have charged David Richard Kulikowski, 39, of Arch Road, Avon, with carrying a pistol without a permit; illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle; and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

According to state police, Kulikowski was driving his 2022 Toyota Corolla west on Route 44 in Norfolk when, for "an unknown reason," his vehicle went off the right shoulder of the road and hit a Jersey concrete barrier.
Police said the vehicle then shot over to the eastbound side of Route 44 onto the shoulder and hit a utility pole guide wire.

Kulikowski wasn't injured in the crash, which was reported to have happened at about 5:28 p.m., but he was cited by police for failure to maintain the established lane.
It was during the crash investigation when police noticed a large knife that was visible inside the vehicle and within driver's reach, police said in a report.
After police questioned him about having other weapons in the car, police said Kulikowski admitted he had a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.
Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded Glock handgun with a 13-round magazine with 40-caliber, hollow-point bullets.
According to police, the suspect said he didn't have a Connecticut pistol permit.
As a result, police charged him with multiple weapons violations.
