Poverty In America Topic Of Avon Library Event

The forum will take place at the Avon Free Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

AVON, CT — A New York Times best-selling book is the topic of a special Avon Free Public Library forum next week, but the book's topic is more about what the forum will be about.

Guests are invited to join the library at 281 Country Club Road for a lecture and discussion about author Matthew Desmond’s book, "Poverty, by America."

It will take place Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the library.

Desmond's book examines the issue of poverty in the U.S., a country known for its wealth and resources, but one that also has, according to the book, one in eight children living in poverty.

Copies of "Poverty" are available at the reference desk on the first floor of the Avon Library.

Guests are urged to read it before the event.

This event is part of a series of events in town exploring poverty that is being funded by the Avon Greater Together Community Fund, in collaboration with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Avon Friends for Equity.

Other programs take place Sept. 28, Oct. 15, and Oct. 24. (See below for information on them.)
