Public Hearing on the Elimination of Social Workers

A brief report of the July 1, 2015 public hearing with Avon Public Schools Board of Education, with a link to WNPR's report.

On July 1, 2015, Avon Public School’s Board of Education endured just under three hours of public complaint over its decision to eliminate social workers for the upcoming 2015-2016 term.

Initially only Avon residents 18 years of age or older were permitted to speak, which precluded many current students from participating. However a motion from board member Houston Putnam Lowry to allow all students to speak was passed partway into the meeting, and the students’ voices were eventually heard.

To date, the stories from WNPR and NBC Connecticut offer the most comprehensive online coverage.
