Quinnipiac Poll: Yankees More Popular Than Red Sox in Connecticut

A recent poll found that the Yankees gained ground this past year over the Red Sox in terms of Connecticut fans.

The New York Yankees picked-up ground when it comes to its fan base in Connecticut versus rival Boston Red Sox, according to a recent Quinnipiac Poll.

Yankees count 44 percent of those surveyed as fans compared to the Red Sox 37 percent with a +/- 2.6 percentage point margin of error.

Of those surveyed, 51 percent said they are very interested or somewhat interested in Major League Baseball. Those were the ones that were counted among the results.

Its the largest lead among Connecticut residents the Yankees have had since 2006. Over the past four years the Yankees had a narrower five-point margin.

“The Captain may have retired, but the Yankees widen their dominance over the Red Sox with Connecticut baseball fans rallying to the Yankees by the largest margin we’ve seen in nearly a decade,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, PhD.

Six percent of baseball fans in Connecticut root for the New York Mets.

Quinnipiac University has run the poll for 13 years.
