Avon Sewer Work May Smell, But Its Not What You Think
A town-hired contractor will begin next week a sewer pipe maintenance project that will preserve the viability of existing sewer pipes.
AVON, CT — If you smell something peculiar coming from Avon's sewer pipes starting Monday, it isn't what you think it is.
Rather, the town is embarking on a sewer pipe lining project that will preserve the integrity of this unseen, but albeit very important, underground liquid waste transportation infrastructure.
"The process involves 'cured-in-place pipe lining that uses a heat-curing process that emits a mild odor that dissipates quickly," wrote the Town of Avon in warning folks about the process.

Avon officials said the project is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 23, and is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

The project is weather dependent, which means it may start later than Monday and may require the contractor to skip work days to perform the project, according to the town.
Residents being directly affected have been notified previously by mail and will also receive a door hanging notice provided by the contractor over the next few days.
The areas in which the work is being performed include:
• A small area adjacent to Old Farms Road
• Old Mill Lane
• Mountain View Avenue
• Enford Street
Residents with questions should contact the Avon Engineering Department at 860-409-4322. Residents with immediate concerns during the project may also contact Inliner’s superintendent, Andrew Mathison, at 617-418-9654.
