Snow Plow Get Your Mailbox In Avon? Town Offers Answers

The Town of Avon reminded residents Tuesday of its policy regarding mailbox damage due to snow plows.

AVON, CT — Over the weekend, the winter storm caused significant snow accumulation and challenging conditions throughout Avon.

As a result, the town has received a number of reports regarding mailbox damage, prompting town officials on Tuesday to release information about Avon's policy regarding such situations.

"We understand that mailbox damage can be frustrating, and we appreciate your patience as the Department of Public Works (DPW) works to address these reports while continuing their primary focus on storm cleanup and road safety," wrote the town.

"During the winter season, it is inevitable that some mailboxes and posts will be damaged during winter plowing operations."

Mailbox Damage Policy

Avon’s policy is as follows:

  • The town will reimburse residents $20 for mailboxes and $65 for posts that are damaged as a result of direct contact with a town snowplow.
  • Mailboxes that are damaged from the force of snow thrown against them or mailboxes that are located closer than 9 inches to the roadway are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • To report mailbox damage, call the Avon Department of Public Works at 860-673-6151 or visit www.avonct.gov/reportaconcern and select “Mailbox Damage.”

"We appreciate your patience and understanding as our crews continue to work diligently to keep roads safe and address reported issues," wrote the town.
