State Tournament Play to Open for Avon

AVON, CT — Cross country is over, swimming brackets will be announced later this week and football still has three games to go, but four other sports begin their state tournaments over the next three days, with three involving teams from Avon High School.

Listed in order of better seeds, here is the upcoming tournament schedule for Falcon teams:

• field hockey (M): No. 11 Joel Barlow at No. 6 Avon, Tues., 11/7, 2 p.m.
• girls volleyball (L): No. 23 Fitch at No. 10 Avon, Mon. 11/6, 6 p.m.
• boys soccer (L): No. 17 Avon at No. 16 Jonathan Law, Mon., 11/6, 2 p.m.

Here are the records for those teams in state championship game history:

• field hockey: 2-3 (last title, 1984)
• girls volleyball: no appearances
• boys soccer: 9-7 (last title, 2015)
