AVON, CT — Two local environmental organizations are asking folks to "stop the strangle" and aid them in ridding a prominent passive recreation site of invasive vegetation this weekend.

The Avon Land Trust and the Avon Sustainability Commission are teaming up on Saturday, April 11, to tackle the problem of "Oriental Bittersweet" plants that are choking off the scene at the Oakes Preserve on Chidsey Road.

Volunteers will gather there from 10 a.m. to noon to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

Folks are asked to bring a shovel, hoe, or lopper during efforts to restore native vegetation to the site.

In doing so, volunteers will also learn a thing or two about tackling invasive vegetation in their yards.
