Support Needed in Avon for Horse Guard

The First Company Governor's Horse Guard has been in Avon since 1954.

With budget cuts looming, supporters of the First Company Governor’s Horse Guard have asked the Avon town council to urge the state not to cut the unit, according to the Hartford Courant.

Under Gov. Dannel Malloy’s proposed budget, $70,000 used to feed and care for the horses at both units - Avon and Newtown - would be cut. Merging the two companies is an option, but then the question would be which location would be closed and which would remain.

Supporters are asking the council and the people of Avon to make their voices heard on this issue.
