Take A Hike, Enjoy Some Music In Avon

The Avon Land Trust and Avon Recreation Department are hosting its annual 'Hike to the Mic' event at the Heublein Tower.

AVON, CT — Folks looking for some music and arts can venture to Avon Saturday morning for a double dose of entertainment and fun.

But they must be prepared to work en route to the journey ... as in a hike up to one of Avon's biggest attractions.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Avon Land Trust and the Avon Recreation Department is hosting its annual "Hike to the Mic" event through Hazen Park en route to the Heublein Tower, which is located at Talcott Mountain State Park.

Considered a "moderately difficult," uphill hike, the steep journey isn't too long, but it does have a steep gradient.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required so that liability forms can be signed.

Participants will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the park, which is located at 244 Nod Road, with the hike to the event starting promptly at 10 a.m.

"Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy sneakers or hiking boots if you have them. Hiking poles are encouraged. Bring a water bottle," reads an event announcement.
