Avon, CT - September 20, 2021 - The Avon Village Center kicked off its official opening on September 1, 2021 amid a fairly steady downpour. We mention this because even the weather could not keep a significant number of shoppers and others away. The area was bustling with folks who were curious and wanted to see the newest addition to the Whole Foods stores. The parking lots were packed and other parking areas typically for other patrons were also full. The buildings on the west side of Climax Road are coming along very nicely. The landscaping, brick walks, and parking areas will be finished and ready for new tenants very soon. These buildings are a short walk across the street to the Whole Foods store. The design of the intersection of Bickford Drive and Climax Road was put in place specifically to help manage what is hoped to be a steady flow of patron vehicles at a safe speed. The ability of patrons to use the bike trail and park their bike at Whole Foods is also seen as a positive. We hope that many people are able to access the Village Center stores by biking, walking, or driving, in a safe and convenient fashion. Landscaping is currently being completed for this phase of the development. We believe the landscaping will continue to enhance the new buildings over time. As with any new development, there are many new desirable building features, but only a bit of time will permit the landscaping to make the overall feel more “friendly” and comfortable for all visitors. We believe the combination of a very walkable and desirable place to bike and shop will only improve over time. The fall season is approaching and with it we hope a more normal time for all. The Avon Village Center is open. We hope all residents will visit and find something special for themselves, be it a quiet corner to relax for a while or some item that they cannot wait to purchase. We all look forward to some additional uses, including residences which will be added to the landscape of the area. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call the Department of Planning and Community Development at (860) 409-4328.
