Tropical Storm Henri is predicted to strengthen to a hurricane and begin impacting Avon on Sunday morning. This storm poses a serious threat, including the possibility of severe flooding and damaging winds. All residents should plan to shelter in place on Sunday and Monday. According to Eversource, some customers may be without power for up to ten days. Here are some things you can do to prepare:

- Bring in lawn furniture, umbrellas, canopies, or anything that can blow away and cause damage.
- Have cash on hand in the event that ATMs or credit card machines are not functioning.
- Gas your vehicles.
- Stock your freezer with ice. Ice will be in short supply so consider making your own.
- Charge your devices.
- Stock up on nonperishable food. Make sure your pets have enough food for several days.
- Have a radio, flashlight and batteries handy.
- If you can, clear debris from the top of catch basins near your home to reduce flooding.
Do not drive through standing water. Please be cautious after the storm. Stay home and do not take any risks. Trees and power lines may be down creating hazardous situations. In the event of any emergency, please call 911.
