Veterans Day 2023: What Is Impacted In Avon?

Avon recently announced the local impacts of the Veterans Day Holiday, which is Nov. 11, but it is being observed Friday, Nov. 10.

AVON, CT — Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, but the town is observing the holiday on Friday, Nov. 10.

As a result, Avon town Offices, public works, the Avon Senior Center, the landfill, and the Avon Free Public Library will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day.

Avon schools are open for the day on Friday, Nov. 10.

Some operations will resume as normal on Saturday, Nov. 11, the actual holiday.

  • The ibrary will be open on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The landfill will also be open during regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 11.

All town operations will reopen as normal on Monday, Nov. 13.

Veterans Day started out as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, to commemorate the end of World War I a year prior.

It has evolved into Veterans Day honoring all military veterans and Nov. 11 became a national holiday in 1938.
