Voters Easily Say 'Yes' To Avon Fire Truck Purchases
A town meeting Tuesday approved two new fire truck purchases for the Avon Volunteer Fire Department.

AVON, CT — Voters at a special town meeting in Avon Tuesday night easily approved purchasing two new vehicles for the Avon Volunteer Fire Department.
There were two questions on the agenda, each one for a different vehicle that would be utilized by the AVFD.
In separate 126-1 votes, town meeting attendees approved bonding $1.259 million for a new pumper tanker truck and $2.172 million for a new ladder truck.

The existing models currently being utilized by the AVFD are in excess of 20 years old and proponents say it is better to replace now than undertake expensive repairs and renovations for the older models.
The tax impact because of the proposal varies depending on what each taxpayer pays, but the amount is expected to be measured in the tens of dollars annually.

With the purchases now approved, the AVFD said it can improve emergency services to the community.
"This necessary purchase will best equip the Avon Volunteer Fire Department to safely and effectively manage the increase of emergency call volume," wrote the AVFD via Facebook.
"When selecting and designing new fire apparatus, the department looks for safety, reliability, fleet continuity, and rugged construction. Modern apparatus provides safety to our volunteers and allows our volunteers to deliver superior emergency services to the community of Avon in a time of need."
