"Black bears are becoming increasingly common in Connecticut as the population continues to grow and expand," the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says on its website. "Reports of bear sightings, even in heavily populated residential areas, have been on the rise. "
The DEEP notes that easily accessible food sources often lead to encounters with bears.
"Bears normally leave an area once they have sensed a human. If you see a bear, enjoy it from a distance. Aggression by bears towards humans is exceptionally rare."

Quite the scene for Jesse Gomes in Avon as this black bear decided it didn't want to pick and choose its food and took the whole kit and kaboodle instead. Remember these dos and don'ts when it comes to safety around bears --> https://t.co/k6zfjrMjuQ pic.twitter.com/T1wHVVERgq
