Several bears visited a local residence over the weekend.

AVON, CT - Several bears were spotted in Avon over the weekend. FOX 61 posted a video shot outside of a resident's kitchen window.
"Black bears are becoming increasingly common in Connecticut as the population continues to grow and expand," the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says on its website. "Reports of bear sightings, even in heavily populated residential areas, have been on the rise. "
The DEEP notes that easily accessible food sources often lead to encounters with bears.

"Bears normally leave an area once they have sensed a human. If you see a bear, enjoy it from a distance. Aggression by bears towards humans is exceptionally rare."
