Emergency Shelters

  • is open as an emergency shelter. Food is being provided and showers are available there. You can also go there to recharge your phones.

Businesses

  • Big Y is open, running on a generator, but perishable and refrigerated items, including beer, are not for sale due to liability reasons. Hot coffee is available though, but be prepared for a line.
  • The Shell station on Route 44 is not selling gas, but the store is open. Once the power goes back on, there will be gas.
  • EMS in Avon Marketplace does not have power, but they will be open throughout the week, selling handwarmers, camping stoves, fuel, head lights and warm apparel.
  • Walmart has reopened, but is without power, so it's in the dark.
  • Welcome Wine & Liquor in Old Avon Village is open as long as there's daylight, as they have no power. They are selling beer, wine and liquor. Red wine has been the biggest seller during the power outage.

HOTELS

  • Residence Inn-Marriott is out of power and while it has a few guests, it has no vacancy.
  • Avon Old Farms Hotel is housing some of the power crew and some area residents without power, though they do not have power themselves. It has no vacancy for new guests. Once the power is back on, it will be at least 24 hours until the hotel has any vacancies.
