Write Like John Hancock At Avon Library America 250 Event

AVON, CT — Children entering kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to explore the nation's founding during a hands-on history program at the Avon Free Public Library later this month.

The library will host "Sign Like a Founder" at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, in the Children's Room, 281 Country Club Road. Registration is required.

The 30-minute program will be led by Jennifer Schloat, a local history and literature teacher and member of the Avon Historical Society.

During the event, participants will learn about the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States before adding their signatures to a life-size replica of the historic document, modeled after the original signed by Connecticut's representatives.

Each child will also receive a keepsake copy of the Declaration of Independence to take home.

The program is part of the library's summer offerings and is open to children entering grades K-6.
