BERLIN, CT — Grassroots Berlin and the National Alliance on Mental Illness will host a community art therapy event on Friday, May 15, at the Art Studio of Connecticut, 10 Steele Blvd, Berlin, as part of Nation Mental Health Awareness Month programming.
The event, titled “Brush & Bloom,” is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the studio and will focus on community connection and healing through collaborative art.
Organizers said a licensed therapist will guide participants through a “Community Garden” art directive, inviting attendees to paint a flower, plant or tree that will become part of a larger mural.
The completed mural will be displayed at Berlin’s Community Center throughout May.
Grassroots Berlin said the event is intended to raise awareness about mental health resources and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness.
Organizers cited national estimates indicating that mental illness affects 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 6 children.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which provides advocacy, education, and support services for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
A representative from NAMI is expected to attend the event to provide information and answer questions.
Organizers said the event is open to participants of all artistic experience levels.
Space is limited, and advance registration is encouraged at this link. Residents who cannot attend but wish to contribute may also donate through the organization’s website at this link.
