The 2026 Memorial Day parade is scheduled for Monday, May 25, beginning at 9 a.m.

According to town officials, the parade will step off from the St. Paul Church parking lot on Peck Street in Kensington.

Marchers will proceed along Farmington Avenue before turning onto Massirio Drive, passing the Berlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10732, then continuing onto Veterans Way and ending at the Berlin Veterans Memorial Park.

Officials said that if rain forces cancellation of the outdoor event, a Memorial Day program will instead be held indoors at 9 a.m. at the Berlin VFW on Massirio Drive.

Memorial Day honors military service members who died while serving in the United States armed forces.

The holiday originated after the Civil War as “Decoration Day” and became a federal holiday in 1971.

Holiday closings

Town officials also announced that all municipal departments will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Trash and recycling collection normally scheduled for Monday will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week, according to the town.
