BERLIN, CT — Berlin town offices will close early and suspend operations for one day in observance of Juneteenth, town officials announced.
All Town of Berlin departments will close at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, and remain closed Friday, June 19, in recognition of the federal holiday.
Officials said trash and recycling collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday.
Residents can expect refuse and recycling pickup to continue on its regular schedule.
Town offices are scheduled to reopen following the Juneteenth observance.
Berlin schools conclude their school year on Thursday, June 18.
Juneteenth recognizes the official end of slavery in the United States, with the last slaves being freed in Texas on June 19, 1865.
That date has come to be known as "Juneteenth," and it is now a national holiday.
