BERLIN, CT — The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library has launched its annual Summer Reading program, offering reading challenges, prizes and activities for residents of all ages throughout the summer.

The library, located at 234 Kensington Road, is encouraging community members to participate by tracking their reading, attending programs and completing challenges.

Library officials said the program is designed to encourage reading, connect community members and provide opportunities to earn prizes.

Participants should note that the library will be closed Wednesday, June 24, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. due to a Town of Berlin staff event. All town buildings will close at 1 p.m., with some facilities remaining closed for the rest of the day depending on normal operating hours.

For adults, each book read earns one virtual ticket that can be used for raffle entries or redeemed for prizes.

Information booklets are available at the Reference Desk.

The first 50 adults to visit the library after registering will receive a coupon for a free Praline's Ice Cream.

Students in grades 6 through 12 can earn instant-win scratch tickets by checking out library materials, attending programs, or completing challenges in the optional Summer Reading Snapshots log.

Participants who do not win instantly can enter drawings for a $50 Amazon gift card or mystery raffle baskets.

Children's programs include several age-based reading challenges.

The first 200 children to register will receive a free Summer Reading Buddy.

Children from preschool through grade 2 can participate in the "Read & Bead" program, earning beads for each day they read or are read to. Participants can trade plain beads for specialty beads and earn Brag Tags as they reach milestones.

Students in grades 3 through 5 can join the "Read & Pin" program, using reading logs to track progress and earn collectible pins.

Additional opportunities are available through special challenges.

Participants can earn trading cards by attending library programs, completing weekly challenges, reading a 2027 Nutmeg Award nominee, or completing the Booking Around Berlin Community Scavenger Hunt.

More information is available through the library's Children's Department Facebook page or by contacting the library at 860-828-7125.
