BERLIN, CT— Local musicians will take the stage in Berlin on Sunday, Aug. 23, for a community fundraiser benefiting the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.
Grassroots Berlin will host "Band Together" from 2 to 7 p.m. at The Truck Bar in Berlin, 151 Webster Square Road.
The family-friendly event will feature live music, food, and games, with residents from Berlin and surrounding communities invited to attend.
Scheduled performers include Lee Totten, the Marcia Gamache Band, Aaron Band and Kelsey Rose & Company. The musicians are donating their time to the fundraiser, according to Grassroots Berlin.
"Band Together is what happens when a community decides to show up," Grassroots Berlin co-founder and Executive Director Cornel Boudria said in announcing the event.
Boudria credited the organizers, musicians and The Truck Bar for supporting the effort and said the fundraiser reflects the organization's focus on local action.
"Connecticut Children's is there for families on the hardest days of their lives, and supporting that work is exactly why Grassroots Berlin exists," Boudria said. "We're neighbors who meet, organize and act. Think big, act local."
Kelsey Rose, a Grassroots Berlin member, event organizer and headlining performer, said she has a personal connection to Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Her younger sister received care there as a baby.
"So many families here in CT are positively impacted by CCMC," Rose said. "I came up with the idea for a concert because my favorite pastime is playing music and I know a lot of musicians who I knew would love to give back to the community."
Rose said the participating musicians are donating their time to support Grassroots Berlin and the hospital.
"I'm so happy this is all coming together," she said. "I can't wait to see the turnout and make some music."
Admission is $5, with children 13 and younger admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Grassroots Berlin website or with cash at the door.
Grassroots Berlin describes itself as a bipartisan, all-volunteer community organization focused on civic engagement, social connections, and charitable fundraising.
