Recent Death Notices From Berlin

BERLIN, CT — Berlin death notices as of Sept. 11, 2026:

• Kathleen "Kathy" Urban Vandrilla, 71, died July 9. A 1973 graduate of Berlin High School, she earned her degree from Annhurst College in 1977 and spent nearly five decades teaching, including more than 20 years as a Pre-K teacher at Saint Paul School.

• David John Albert, 77, died June 19 at home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Susan Albert, a son, a daughter, three grandchildren, and two siblings.

• Noeme Mariano Espino, DMD, 89, died June 8 at Ledgecrest Health Care Center in Berlin. Born in Calumpit, Bulacan, Philippines, she worked as a dentist there before retiring and immigrating to the United States in 2005. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren.

• Chester "Chet" W. Winnicki, 81, died April 24. A 1962 graduate of Plymouth High School in Pennsylvania, he spent decades working in the Central Connecticut insurance industry and was an avid fisherman and boater.

• William J. Sarra Jr., 75, died March 22. A 1968 graduate of Pulaski High School who attended the University of Connecticut, he opened Strovis Package Store, later worked at the family-owned American Bazaar Garment Factory, and retired from the Connecticut Lottery. He is survived by his wife, Debra Sarra, three daughters, and four grandchildren.

• Lorraine S. Cyr, 98, died March 20 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. The wife of Conrad E. Cyr Sr. for 70 years, she had been a Berlin resident for many years. She is survived by her husband, four children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
