BERLIN, CT — After more than nine years of tracking suspects, visiting schools and connecting with residents, a longtime member of the Berlin Police Department will be honored during a retirement ceremony Thursday, Oct. 15.
The department is inviting the public to celebrate K9 Casner's retirement at 5 p.m. at Berlin Town Hall, 240 Kensington Road.
Casner officially retired from police duty Aug. 31, ending a career that included law enforcement assignments and numerous appearances at community events.
The police dog became known for his tracking abilities and his distinctive howl whenever police lights and sirens were activated, according to town officials.
In addition to his police duties, Casner was a familiar presence at Berlin schools, Girl Scout gatherings, sporting events, and other community activities, where he interacted with local children and residents.
The Berlin Police Department announced the upcoming ceremony in a social media post, inviting residents to attend and recognize Casner's years of service.
The department's announcement features a photograph of Casner alongside his handler, BPD Officer Aimee Krzykowski.
The retirement ceremony will provide an opportunity for residents and fellow officers to recognize Casner's contributions to the department and the Berlin community.
