The caller reported smoke coming from the building, fire officials said.

The first arriving fire officer found smoke coming from the two-story home.

Firefighters entered the residence and discovered an active fire in the basement that had extended into the first and second floors.

Crews quickly brought the flames under control and searched the home, confirming that no one was inside when the fire occurred.

No injuries were reported.

The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department received assistance from its Task Force 51 mutual aid partners during the response.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Berlin Fire Marshal's Office, with assistance from the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Officials did not immediately provide an estimate of the damage or indicate whether the home remained habitable following the fire.
