Berlin Announces Municipal Juneteenth Impacts

BERLIN, CT — Town officials have announced the municipal impacts of Monday's Juneteenth holiday on local services.

Schools have been out for the summer since June 9, so the holiday will only result in the closure that tday of all Town departments, Berlin officials said.

The day, however, will not impact the normal trash/recycling schedule next week.

The nation's newest federal holiday, Juneteenth has been a special day for many generations, commemorating the day on June 19, 1865, after the end of the Civil War, when union troops arrived in Texas and announced the end of slavery to enslaved Blacks there.

President Joe Biden signed the legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday in June 2021.
