Berlin Celebrates Its Newest Centenarian

The Berlin Senior Center hosted a special birthday party for the longtime resident, with cake and kudos aplenty.

BERLIN, CT — A historic milestone birthday was celebrated in town Thursday, with many community members in attendance.

The Berlin Senior Center honored local resident Willie D’Amato on Thursday, who celebrated his upcoming 100th birthday with family, town officials, and friends.

D’Amato, who turns 100 on Sunday, March 8, was honored during a gathering at the senior center that began with attendees singing “Happy Birthday.”

He blew out 10 candles on his cake — one representing each decade — with assistance from Berlin Senior Center Assistant Director Sami Wnek.

As cake was served, Berlin Senior Center Director Tina Doyle welcomed guests, including Berlin Mayor Mark H. Kaczynski, the town manager, town golf course staff, and D’Amato’s family and friends.

During the event, the mayor read a proclamation recognizing D’Amato’s 100th birthday.

Doyle presented D’Amato with a gold golf club she designed to commemorate the occasion, along with birthday cards signed by more than 100 people.

The mayor also announced a surprise gift: a free season golf pass for D’Amato that includes cart fees.

D’Amato thanked attendees for what organizers described as an outpouring of friendship and support as the community celebrated the milestone.
