Berlin Collecting Worn U.S. Flags For Proper Disposal
The local American Legion chapter is hosting a special flag disposal ceremony on June 14.
BERLIN, CT — The Town of Berlin is collecting worn and beat-up American flags for proper disposal later this month.
Town officials have been collecting them since May 30 and will continue to collect them through Tuesday, June 13.
Then, on Wednesday, June 14, American Legion Post 68 will have proper flag retirement ceremony at 5 p.m. at its location on 154 Porters Pass, Berlin.

Flags can be dropped off for that ceremony at the Berlin Town Manager's Office, Berlin Town Hall, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin.
State Rep. Donna Veach, R-Berlin, is also working on promoting the effort, urging folks to abide by the proper protocols when getting rid of a flag.

"The U.S. Flag Code specifies that the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning," wrote Veach in an announcment.
