BERLIN, CT — Local leaders have recently said "yes" to a plan for Berlin's public works department to help out the local American Legion post cope with flooding issues.

The Berlin Town Council unanimously voted July 26 to utilize town resources to help out American Legion Post 68, located at 154 Porters Pass in town.

According to the meeting minutes, drainage issues at the site have resulted in water accumulating and, eventually, flowing inside the facility, causing flood damage whenever heavy rains occur.

As a result, the town's public works department will create a swale and regrade portions of the site that would divert runoff away from the building.

A swale is a natural or man-made area of land in which water can collect and flow away from a location.
